Comment
[edit]The Local Hispanic population will be increasing during 2001-2005. The crime rate follows the national standard of the last ten years (2001-11?), decreasing by 35%. Exception is meth lab related arrests which will continue to increase, level off, and perhaps drop slowly. The city has new dikes to protect from flooding and is increasing the sports related areas. The heart of the Arkansas City is losing its business influences/shops. A new industry is badly needed to keep the youth at home upon high school graduation. - signed by anon IP
- Arkansas City tries to profit from being on the state boundary with Oklahoma and the nearby Osage Indian Reservation, where the Osage Nation and Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma either have jurisdiction or historical sovereignity over south of the state line. 71.102.6.15 (talk) 11:15, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]Although the state of Arkansas is pronounced "ARE-kan-saw", how about this city?? I was told a while ago that in Kansas, the river is commonly pronounced "are-KAN-zas", and this is a city in Kansas. Georgia guy 19:52, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Usually, the pronunciation is "Ark City" ;) - however, when the full city name is given, it is pronounced "ar-Kan-zas". N0YKG 16:05, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
Black Swimming Pool
[edit]What was the name of the black swimming pool? When was it closed. When was the Paris pool integrated? Were there other separate facilities? --Gbleem 00:14, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Frank Denton
[edit]From notable residents, I removed the first part of "Frank befriended Andrew’s brother, Dick Mellon, and went on to become the Chairman of Mellon National Bank in the 1960’s." This is unsourced and considering RB Mellon died in 1933, he seems unlikely to have exerted much influence in the '60s. It can be restored if some supporting text can be found of course.-choster 06:12, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
